Another full turn-out of 48 Cadets for this 2* Super Series Tournament and each player is featured in the galleries covering the Preliminaries, Knockouts, Quarter and Semi Finals.
After the Preliminary Heats, the players divided into three Bands with their own Knock-out competitions with the Finals (as shown here) played simultaneously.
Band 3 was the first to finish with Charlie Craig (Chelmsford) beating Joe Buscombe (Hullbridge) in three close sets to win the £20.00 first prize, with a consolation tenner to Joe.
The two other Bands went to 5 sets. The scores in each game in Band 2 were identical -- 11/9 -- and alternated between Ryan Farthing (Cleeve Park) and Henry Shaw (Stowmarket). But it was Farthing who pipped it in the fifth set and picked up the Winner's cheque for £35.00, with Henry going home with £25.00.
Band 1 was contested between the top seed Bertie Kelly (Bridgwater) (who had beaten fifth seed Luke Davies -Stokes (Stowmarket) in their Semi-Final), and third seed Barney Mindlin, who had overcome Urban team-mate, James Hamblett, to reach the Final. This was another tense five-setter with Mindlin edging the first game 16:14 before facing an indomitable performance by Kelly over the next two games. Mindlin however fought back to level terms with a mighty 11:4 performance and it looked as though momentum was going his way into the deciding game. Kelly however shrugged off his setback and clinched victory with a hard-fought 11:7 to take the top prize of £110 presented by Umpire Val Murdoch. Mindlin was rewarded with a cheque for £80.00 with the losing Semi-finalists receiving £35.00 each.
Five more Super Series are planned at BATTS and the next one is later this month -- a Juniors 2* Tournament on July 21. full details can be found on the BATTS website BATTS Tournaments
